'Trip to Rory McEwen exhibition'
This week the ‘Cygnets’ visited the ‘Rory McEwen’ exhibition at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery in Kew Gardens. What a fabulous exhibition of an amazingly talented artist. Aged 21 he was painting a series of carnations and the quality of his work far surpasses the majority of botanical artists working today.
His later compositions painted in the 1970’s feel very contemporary, using large areas of negative space, decomposing subject matter and cut off images, only the frames date the work.
It is a stunning show and I thoroughly recommend a visit if you can get there before it closes in September.
