’Larger than Life’ Collection

‘I started this new series of large scale pictures in the summer of 2015. I have always wanted to work much larger but as the medium of coloured pencil is more suited to detail, my work to date has been life size.

I am always experimenting and pushing the medium and by using an underpainting technique with a combination of pencils, pastels and baby oil (liquid paraffin wax) I have been able to cover larger areas and build up successive layers without a build-up of wax on the surface thus creating rich, glowing colour which looks just like painting.

Lately I have been experimenting with an American invention, an ‘Icarus’ board, a heated panel that melts the colour into the paper and helps me create the effect of a translucent watercolour wash.’
