This picture started life in Spain from the wonderful almond trees growing along the roadside up in the Andalucian mountains near the Finca el Cerillo where we stay for our painting holidays.  Originally, on our autumn visit, I was just drawn to the textures of the ripening almonds and conceived it as a graphite drawing. The revisiting in the spring felt I had to include the deliciously delicate blossom and then eventually the final addition of the actual nuts completed the life cycle.
