Botanical art workshop at Dedham Hall

4th September 2016

A botanical art workshop set in an idyllic location in the beautiful Essex village of Dedham. A week of sunshine, excellent food, lots of laughter with a really friendly, hardworking group of students. The group included a few complete beginners, some regular hobbyists and several very accomplished botanical artists. This all conspired to produce some excellent coloured pencil work.

For the very fit the day started early with long walks across the meadows to Flatford Mill, for the less energetic like myself, a shorter walk around the beautiful village, and for others an extra half hour in bed before tucking into a delicious full English breakfast.  We work all day, most days, so produced a lot more work than is presented here. Students were able to try out various techniques and gadgets, do some study pieces and experiment with compositional ideas before going on to their more finished pieces.

All days ended with drinks and chat in the bar followed by a delicious three course dinner. After a good night’s rest we were all ready for the next day’s adventures.

 Take a look.
