Autumn update

24th August 2011

Newsletter Autumn 2011

Not only am I hopeless at doing my blog now I have also failed to send out a monthly newsletter, as promised, so maybe a quarterly one will be more achievable, who knows.

Dates for your Diaries:

19th September – 1st October UKCPS 10th Anniversary Exhibition.  Methodist Hall, Westminster, (opposite Westminster Abbey), London.  Sponsored by Faber Castell so they will have a shop there.   I will have some work on show and so will several students and it should be a good exhibition. Details  www.UKCPS.co.uk

26 – 27th November – Open Studio, Rowde, Wiltshire.

New prints for the autumn will be ‘Oriental Poppies’ and ‘Merlot’. I have retired from exhibiting at Chelsea Flower Show this year and this has now given me the opportunity to draw the huge, beautiful, scarlet red poppies that always flower in my garden around that time. ‘Merlot’ is the result of my first painting holiday trip to the Bordeaux region of France last year when I was inspired by the gnarled wood of the vines and the luscious deep colours of the ripe grapes. Both of these pictures will be on show at the UKCPS exhibition.  I am still hoping to finish the large walnut life cycle for the SBA exhibition in 2012.

The Italian holiday in June was a great success, the sun shone all week and everyone did amazing work. We enjoyed a stunning day out crawling around the Piano Grande overwhelmed by the numbers and varieties of the wild flowers and orchids in bloom. We will be returning to Preci again in June 2012 so get your name down soon if you want a place.

The ‘Cygnets’ enjoyed a sunny day at Kew visiting the new Shirley Sherwood Gallery in May and another fascinating trip in July to the Royal College of Physicians museum and gardens.

On November 30th we will be visiting the British Museum to see some of their Mary Delaney pieces.

Website We are hoping that by Christmas we will have a small shop up and running on the website to sell essential equipment such as Faber Castell pencils, embossers, etc.

Workshops 2012  – I know some of you were disappointed that you were unable to get a place on the Light and Shade workshop this year so we are running another one next year.  We will also be running the very popular Working from Photographs again but as a three day workshop giving you more time to work on your pieces after we have done all the photography and information gathering. The new list of workshop dates is on the website www.annswan.co.uk

NB Thanks to those of you who supported Alan and his son on their run for ‘Headway’.  They raised nearly £2,000 and Alan came in the top third of the over 60’s so he was very chuffed as well as puffed!!
